As corporate spokesman for Boeing's Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business unit, Dan Beck is the prime contact for the news media on critical issues related to BDS' defense, space and security businesses. Beck also participates in the planning of communications strategy and the crafting and delivery of key BDS messages. In his role as director of External & Advocacy Communications, he manages a team of more than 40 media relations specialists and develops external messages and strategy for BDS leadership.

Prior to his current role, Beck was director of Communications for Integrated Defense Systems (now BDS) Launch and Satellite Systems (L&SS). He managed an integrated communications team for the L&SS constituent businesses of Expendable Launch Systems, Boeing Satellite Systems, Rocketdyne Propulsion and Power, and Sea Launch. Taking on this position in 2002, the scope of his team included media relations, employee communications, community relations, environmental communications and educational-outreach programs. He also served as lead communicator for Boeing in California. Beck first came to Boeing in 1997 as media relations manager for Rocketdyne.

Before joining Rocketdyne, Beck was a political communications consultant in private practice in Burbank, Calif., and prior to that, press secretary for U.S. representatives from Ohio and Virginia, following his management of their successful election campaigns.

Beck is a recognized instructor in political communications and public relations technique, having taught at seminars and workshops throughout the United States. In 1998, he was an official election observer during the first major free election in Cambodia in more than a generation.

Beck is a graduate of California State University, Long Beach, and holds a master's in political science from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and a master's in professional writing from the University of Southern California.
