You may have seen a few wire stories (like this Bloomberg article) hit in the past 24 hours. Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell held his weekly press conference yesterday and the KC-X Tanker final Request for Proposal (RFP) was discussed. Boeing was asked for our reaction to his statement that they were "correcting mistakes and altering the acquisition strategy a bit" in the draft RFP before its release at the end of January or in early February. Here's our statement in its entirety:
Based on public statements by Pentagon leadership, it's our understanding that no significant changes will be made to the KC-X Request for Proposal as it transitions from draft to final form later this month. But we do expect America's Air Force to consider both comments and questions as they seek to improve their critical acquisition document. Boeing is ready to receive that Final RFP and respond by offering an American designed and built, combat-ready tanker featuring max capability at lowest cost.
